Howard CC's women's lacrosse team started their New York trip with a tough battle against Onondaga CC. The Lazers, ranked #2 in the nation, gave the Dragons their first loss of the year as HCC fell 25-14.
The Lady Dragons efforts were led by Rebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty HS) 5 goals and 1 assist, Erica Heaphy (Columbia, MD, Centennial HS) added 4 goals, and Katja Randazzo (Ellicott City, MD, Howard HS) chipped in 3 goals and 2 assists. HCC goalie Ellie Garvey (Elkridge, MD, Francis Scott Key) faced a stunning 41 shots and was able to tally 11 saves.
The Dragons were able to match the Lazers on draw controls (21-20 for OCC), Onondaga dominated the game in ground balls (18-9) and turnovers (15-8) as well as clears (10-10 for OCC, 6-13 HCC). The #4 ranked Lady Dragons finish their New York swing with a noon game at Mohawk Valley CC tomorrow.
