Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Well-Balanced Dragons Offense Routs CCBC Essex 16-6

The Howard CC women's lacrosse team enjoyed a great team win as seven different players scored goals as they defeated the visiting CCBC Essex Knights 16-6. The victory improves the #4 ranked Dragons to 8-1 on the season and 4-1 in the conference as they currently sit 2nd in the MDJUCO.

The Dragons came into the game confident after beating the Knights on the road earlier in the season by the score of 15-3. As was the case in that game, HCC got out to an early lead that was insurmountable as they scored the first 8 goals in the game. Star attacker Cassidy Delaney (Ellicott City, MD, Marriotts Ridge High School) continued her hot streak as she led the team with 5 goals in the game after scoring a combined 13 goals in the previous two games. But the real story of the day was the rest of the team coming through as Ivana Yakovleff (Columbia, MD, Springbrook High School) and Heather Veli (Burtonsville, MD, Blake High School) scored 3 goals each in the game with some impressive passing skills on display for the HCC offense. Other non-traditional contributors included Nina Branch (Glen Burnie, MD, North County High School) who added a goal and an assist and defender Nicole Cote (Elkridge, MD, Long Reach High School) who scored a free position goal on an epic five-hole shot that found the back of the net.

Not to be forgotten is the always dangerous Rebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty High School) who scored a paltry 2 goals and 2 assists while also leading the team with 3 draw controls on the day. Silvia Kim (Clarksville, MD, River Hill High School) provided a fantastic effort on both sides of the field as she dished out 3 assists while also forcing 3 turnovers and collecting 5 ground balls. Audrey Ford (Woodbine, MD, Glenelg HS) used her blazing speed to run the field very effectively throughout the game while adding a goal and 2 assists while Emma Bogner (Catonsville, MD, Seton Keough High School) was tenacious on defense getting 2 ground balls, 2 draw controls, and 3 caused turnovers in what was possibly her most effective performance of the season. In the cage, the always fantastic Ellie Garvey (Elkridge, MD, Francis Scott Key) tallied 12 saves on 18 shots as she continues to make her case as one of the best goalies in the NJCAA.

After getting through a brutal stretch of 5 games in 8 days including a weekend trip to New York, the Dragons finally get a little rest before their next contest on Tuesday April 19th when they host the College of Southern Maryland for a 4 PM game.
