Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | Mark Winkel

Dragons Start Great, Falter Late to #1 Fighting Owls

Columbia, MD - The Dragons jumped out to an incredible 5-3 lead midway through the first half. but were unable to keep pace with the high flying #1 ranked Harford Fighting Owls in a 21-9 loss.

Howard started out the game with a ton of energy as Marielle Henriquez (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) scored within the first two minutes of the game to give the Dragons a lead. After a couple Harford goals, Kristen Ogle (Sykesville, MD/Century) set up Sandra Naylor (Elkridge, MD/Mt. DeSales) to tie it back up then proceeded to score the next two goals to force Harford into calling a timeout.

The Fighting Owls answered with a goal, but Henriquez came right back with a free position goal to give the Dragons a remarkable 5-3 lead a quarter of the way into the game.

Harford got into their groove after that, going on a 12-0 run to close out the first half.

Naylor set up Ogle for the opening goal of the second half as she scored a season high four goals in the contest.

Noelle Dawson (Catonsville, MD/Kings Academy) went on to score her fourth of the season and defender Emily Delaney (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) went coast to coast as she scored her first collegiate goal late in the contest.

The Dragons did well on the draw controls with Naylor, Ogle and Maddie Reeser (Sykesville, MD/Century) combining for 12 while Brianna Bucksell (Washington, DC/Oxon Hill) stopped 11 shots.

Howard will now travel to Batavia, NY to take on the Genesee Cougars on Saturday, April 27 at 12 PM.
