Placement Testing Information

Information for Student-Athletes Planning to Take the ACCUPLACER Placement Test

The most important aspect about the placement test is that the placement test is not just another step to take in the process of attending HCC and playing a sport. It is not just another form to fill out - this test determines which classes you are able to take which may ultimately have athletic eligibility implications. Student-athletes should take the test seriously and brush up on their math and English before testing.
Other points to consider:
  • Do you have SAT or ACT scores that would exempt you from taking one or more ACCUPLACER tests? A score of 550 on the Math or Reading SAT, or 21 on the Math, English, or Reading ACT will exempt you from taking those particular placement tests.*
  • All students are given an opportunity to take an initial test and a retest in a 2-year period. The best score is used for placement, so there is no risk in retesting.
  • It is very important for you to do your very best on your first placement test attempt. This is to ensure all retest options are available to you, as scores below a certain level may result in limited retest options. This stresses the importance of doing your best on your first attempt, and not using the first attempt just to see where you place.
