Philippe DeRosier Jr. became the head coach of Howard Community College’s track & field and cross country programs for the 2023-24 XCTF season. Under his leadership, the Dragons captured the Men's 2024 NJCAA Region 20 Outdoor Track & Field Championship, competed at the 2024 NJCAA Track & Field National Championships, and won the Men's 2024 NJCAA Region 20 Men’s Cross Country Championship. In 2025, the Dragons continued their success by finishing second overall in the region for the Men's team.
A native of Howard County, DeRosier competed for 2002 Long Reach Lightning under revered coach Clovis Thomas. Under coach Thomas, Phil won two MPSAA state championships and was the 2002 Howard County Times track and field athlete of the year. He then enrolled at Essex County CC transferred to Howard Community College to continue his track and field career under legendary coach Errick Henlon. From 2004–2005 Phil earned six NJCAA National Championships titles and was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2014. He later transferred to Saint Augustine’s University, where he became a four-time NCAA Division II National Champion and a ten-time NCAA Division All-American, Phil was also a member of two national championship winning teams at Saint Aug and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Performance and Wellness.
DeRosier began his coaching career from 2009–2011 at Long Reach High School, where he coached 10 Maryland state champions. He later transitioned into the strength and conditioning field, including serving as a strength and conditioning coordinator for the track team at Stevenson University. He went on to found Prolific Performance LLC, owning and operating a high-level sports performance facility in Glen Burnie, Maryland, for more than eight years. Under his direction, the facility trained over 250 athletes annually and produced more than 25 MPSAA State Track & Field Champions, accounting for over 50 state championship titles, 10 MIAA/IAAM Conference Champions, and five National High School All-Americans.
In addition to his coaching accomplishments, DeRosier is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and holds Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 coaching certifications from USA Track & Field in sprints, hurdles, and relays.
DeRosier is also well established within Howard Community College’s athletics department as the Manager of Fitness and Recreation. In this role, he oversees daily fitness center operations, manages strength and conditioning services for athletics, coordinates facility rentals, and supervises recreational sports programming.
