Mark Winkel was named the Manager for Sports Information and Event Operations for Howard CC athletics in June of 2018. In 2020, Winkel was also named the Coordinator of the Esports program at Howard Community College.
As the Esports program coordinator, Winkel has started a new program that has already blossomed in its first year of existence with over 30 student-athletes over three games where he is an administrator and coach for the entire program. His lifetime of experience participating in in a wide variety of video games helped prepare him to coach different games at a high level.
Winkel's primary duties include the management of sports information in the athletics department as well as game operations for all home athletic contests. As the Manager for Sports Information, Winkel is responsible for managing the Howard CC website, social media accounts, and all publications. Winkel also maintains statistical records, manages the live video production for athletic contests, and acts as the primary source of all athletic media relations.
Winkel came back to the Dragons after spending two years at Harford Community College serving in a similar capacity. While at Harford, Winkel oversaw a redesign of the entire athletics website while making vast improvements upon the gameday experience for the Fighting Owls.
Before going to Harford, Winkel previously served as the Sports Information Specialist at Howard Community College from 2014-2016. In his first tour at Howard CC, Winkel was responsible for the designing and initiation of the first ever athletics website for the program as well as the first social media presence, live video streaming, statistics, and athletic publications.
While working at Howard CC, Winkel also completed his Master's degree in Sports Management at Southern New Hampshire University while interning at UMBC in their Athletic Communications department and concurrently serving as the Director of Baseball Operations for the Retrievers.
In the process of earning his Bachelors' degree at California State University Monterey Bay, Winkel worked at Pebble Beach Golf Course in their client relations department while also working as an NFL Agency Intern at Eastern Athletic Services.
Mark currently resides with his wife and two children in Westminster, MD.
