Ken Bernstein was named a volunteer assistant coach of the men's soccer team in February 2024.
A proven leader with a passion for developing goalkeeping talent, Coach Ken Bernstein boasts a distinguished career as a player and coach, achieving national and international recognition. Ken's coaching career began at George Mason University, where he was an assistant coach and goalkeeper coach for the George Mason University Women's soccer program. While at GMU, Ken helped lead the team to the 1985 NCAA Division 1 National Championship (14-2-1 record) and the 1986 NCAA Women's Division 1 Final Four. Bernstein also had a hand in coaching starting goalkeeper Kim Maslin, who became an All-NCAA Tournament player and a member of the USA Women's National Team.
Coach Bernstein also spent time outside of collegiate training and began developing champions on the next level. Utilizing his extensive experience coaching goalkeepers, Ken was granted the opportunity to be apart of the Women's Olympic Development Program East from 1985 to 1986, and served as Assistant Coach for the USA Open Men's and Maccabiah Games teams, contributing to bronze medal finishes.
Coach Bernstein's soccer journey began at Oakland Mills High School, where he wasn't just a player, but a standout, leading the team to two state championships, with undefeated seasons in both his junior and senior years. Ken also earned All-State and All-Region honors. His passion for the game led him to George Mason University, where he continued to develop his talent at the collegiate level and established a number of records that still stand.Â
Coach Bernstein's dedication to the sport is evident in his impressive playing career and his commitment to coaching and developing the next generation of goalkeeping talent. He currently holds a USSF class "B" coaching license.Â
