Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dragons Continue to Soar, Beat CCBC Essex 8-0

The HCC women's soccer team continued their incredible season, defeating CCBC Essex 8-0. The victory puts the Dragons at 12-1 on the year with their 11th straight victory and are now 5-0 in the MD JUCO standings.

As has been the case all year, the Dragons came out with fantastic energy and controlled possession throughout the contest. The scoring barrage began in just the 6th minute as a great shot from Becky Manelli (Woodstock, MD, Westminster HS) forced a save from the Essex keeper, but the rebound came right to Nikki Manning (Sykesville, MD, South Carroll HS) who put in her 3rd goal of the season as she is enjoying her new role as a forward.

From there the flood gates opened as Rebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty HS) was given a great pass by Sydney Rynn-Mason (Columbia, MD, Pallotti HS) and Coughlin finished it for her 5th of the season. It took only 6 more minutes for the Dragons to add two more goals as Savanna Holt (West Friendship, MD, Glenelg HS) scored her 8th and 9th of the season assisted by Manelli and Rynn-Mason respectively.

The Dragons scored another quick pair of goals in the 43rd and 44th minutes as both goals were scored by Jen Craven (Damascus, MD, Damascus HS) and both were assisted by Holt to make it a 6-0 lead at halftime.

HCC decided to pull back on the aggession a little bit in the 2nd half instead working on passing the ball around the field with poise. It wasn't until the 69th minute for the Dragons to score again as Craven intercepted a CCBC Essex pass and took a long range shot from a difficult angle that went over the keeper and into the net for Craven's hat trick.

With the game well in hand, Coach Seagroves gave back-up goalie Marisa Grant (Ellicott City, MD, Howard HS) the 2nd half between the pipes, which freed up Darcey Bodziony (Columbia, MD, Atholton HS) to move up to attack. Bodziony was recently named as the MD JUCO women's soccer student-athlete for the month of September with her incredible goalkeeping, but in this game she was able to make the scoresheet on the other end as a great cross from Taylor Nowaskey (Clarksville, MD, River Hill HS) allowed Bodziony to make an easy tap-in goal to complete the scoring at 8-0.

The Dragons will face their most important match of the year on Thursday October 15th as they travel to conference rival Harford CC for a 5:30 PM match. With the Dragons at 5-0 in the conference and the Owls at 5-1, the match essentially sets up as an MD JUCO championship game as the winner will clinch the title. If the Dragons were to win, it would be their first MD JUCO championship since 2006.
