Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dragons Win 8th Straight, Defeat Potomac 2-0

The HCC women's soccer team continued their hot streak as they won their 8th straight contest on Sunday 2-0 over Potomac State College of WVU.

With the game pushed back a day due to the potential weather hazards of the imcoming hurricane, the weather stayed dry all afternoon despite the chilly winds throughout the game.

But now amount of wind can cool the blazing hot Dragons, as they continue to dominate possession and aggression in every game they play. Once again the Dragons were able to earn an early goal as budding offensive star Savanna Holt (West Friendship, MD, Glenelg HS) made a great cross into the box where Rebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty HS) masterfully back-heeled the ball into the net in just the 7th minute of play.

Goalie Darcey Bodziony (Columbia, MD, Atholton HS) who has become more of a spectator in net for recent games was forced into making several saves in the first half, one of which was a diving save on a free kick just outside of the box.

The 2nd half was a different story as the back three of Lis Parks (Columbia, MD, St. Johns HS), Celeste Costabile (Ellicott City, MD, River Hill HS), and Taylor Nowaskey (Clarksville, MD, River Hill HS) barely let the ball cross the half line. This meant that one goal was likely going to be enough for the Dragons, but that didn't stop Nikki Manning (Sykesville, MD, South Carroll HS) from hitting a 20 yard shot that curled beautifully into the net on another assist from Holt to extend the lead to 2-0.

Ultimately, the Dragons outshot the Catamounts 17-6 as well as dominating corner kick accrual at 15-1.

The Dragons next game will be a critical one as they travel to the College of Southern Maryland who is currently tied with HCC atop the MD JUCO standings at 3-0. This crucial game will take place on Tuesday October 6th with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 PM.
