NOVA Beat Dragons in NJCAA Region XX First-Round Game

The Dragons basketball season came to an end as HCC fell to NOVA 85-78 in the first round of the NJCAA Region XX tournament. 

HCC showed a strong 1st half in stark contrast to their previous game against NOVA as the Dragons went to halftime with a 44-37 lead. The 2nd half however was all NOVA as they came out storming out of the gates with a 25-4 run. All-region first teamer Mortimer Berchie was the leader of NOVA's efforts as he scored 20 of his 29 points in the 2nd half togo with his 10 rebounds. Teammate Curtis Lovitt used his strong 1st half performance to chip in 23 points of his own and point guard Korey Williams added 13 points and 5 assists.

The Dragons efforts were much more rounded with 5 players reaching double digit points. Robert Goodwin (Baltimore, MD, Ben Franklin HS) led the way with 16 points, followed by Jahmal Eggleston (Baltimore, MD, Ben Franklin HS) with 15, Willie Kee (Baltimore, MD, Parkville HS) with 14, Ian Vasquez (Harlem, NY, Lincoln HS) with 13, and Connor Gaskins (Randallstown, MD, Randallstown HS) with 10 points and 11 rebounds. HCC was plagued with poor shooting all night as they shot 33% from the floor, 17% from behind the arc, and 60% from the free throw line.
