Thrilling Last Minute Goal Gives Dragons 1-0 Win

HCC freshman Savanna Holt (West Friendship, MD, Glenelg HS) scored with just 23 seconds left in regulation to give the Dragons a 1-0 win over the newly renamed Anne Arundel CC Riverhawks. The first collegiate goal for Holt couldn't have come at a better time for a Dragons team that was anxious to not let the game go to overtime.

Howard CC looked the stronger team from the start and continued that throughout the entire game. AACC was able to get some attack going in the first half, but a coordinated defensive line helped draw six offside calls in the first half alone.

The Dragons looked strong in the first half as they barely missed scoring several times, the closest of which was a shot by Jen Craven (Damascus, MD, Damascus HS),that hit off the crossbar just 2 minutes into the game.

HCC continued to throw constant pressure at the Anne Arundel CC goal, but it took 89 and a half minutes to finally find the back of the net when Holt made a run on the goal and beat the goalie near side to the delight of the home crowd.
The second half is when HCC really started to take control as the ball barely entered the Dragons half of the field in the latter stanza. The Dragons were able to accumulate 22 shots in the second half on their way to out shooting the Riverhawks 30-2 over the length of the game. Rebeka Coughlin,(Sykesville, MD, Liberty HS),thought she had finally broke the tie score in the 62nd minute, but her shot caromed of the post where, Elisa Mobley,(Dayton, MD, Glenelg HS),shot the rebound into the goal keepers body. Coughlin finished the game with a team high 7 shots, 3 of which were on goal.

Howard CC have another conference rival coming to the Dragon's roost as Montgomery College comes to town on September 8th at 4:00 PM.
