HCC Women’s Basketball Defeats Potomac State College 63-53

The Howard CC Dragons went on the road last night to beat Potomac State College 63-53 in a thrilling game in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The victory brings the Dragons record to 9-3 on the season as they continue to exceed expectations.

After a sluggish start to the game going down 6-0, the Dragons stepped up their defense to finish the quarter down only 17-14. The second quarter comeback was led by
Lauren Thompson (Columbia, MD, Oakland Mills HS) with 5 of her game high 19 points including a big three to help the dragons cut it to the lead. After an uncharacteristic 6 of 16 from the charity stripe in the first half, Howard CC was down by only one 29-28 at the half.

The intensity picked up in the second half as Howard took the lead with the first basket of the half and never looked back. The HCC dominant second half was led by a big defensive effort from
Sam Heisig (Glenelg, MD, Glenelg HS) with 10 steals leading to easy fast break baskets on her way to her 2nd triple-double in three games as she added 14 points and 10 rebounds. In her best outing this season,Lis Parks (Columbia, MD, St. Johns HS) pulled down 13 defensive rebounds and contributed to the offense with 10 points. The Dragons dribbled out the last 30 seconds of the game silencing the crowd and walked away with a big road win.

The Dragons next face a major test as they travel to Baltimore City CC on Saturday January 16th; tip-off is scheduled for 1 PM.
