Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dragons Snap 11-Game Losing Streak with 89-83 Win over CCBC Catonsville

The Howard CC men's basketball team was finally able to snap an atrocious 11-game losing streak with a much needed 89-83 win over CCBC Catonsville. The win puts the Dragons at 4-16 on the season and 1-9 in the conference as they look to get out of the conference cellar.

The Dragons led the game for the majority of the time, but as the lead was swapped with less than 5 minutes to play an all too familiar tone started to set in as HCC had gone through this before. As the Cardinals made a layup with 3:12 left in regulation to take an 83-81 lead, it was Ryan Jackson (Baltimore, MD, Milford Mill Academy) who hit a massively important 3-pointer to take the lead back.

As Catonsville attempted to catch the Dragons off guard with a quick transition, John Grant Jr. (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore City HS) blocked what would have been an easy layup and then caught a great pass from Kyle Davis (Washington D.C., Wakefield HS) going the other way and Grant made a big jump shot to extend the lead to three and HCC never looked back. In fact, for a team that has consistently struggled in the last few minutes of the game throughout the season, the Dragons holding their opponents scoreless over the last three minutes of the game is a wonderfully encouraging sign.

Grant Jr. tallied another double-double with his 14 points and 15 rebounds while Davis also provided his usual 11 assists and was 6-6 from the charity line. A big boost to the team was the return of J.P. Herbert (Gaithersburg, MD, Gaithersburg HS) who hadn't played in a game for the Dragons since December 22nd but came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 19 points.

The Dragons will take the court less than 24 hours after this game as they travel to Montgomery College to face the Raptors at 4 PM on Sunday.
