Dragons Run Past Raptors 94-75

Playing in their 3rd game in 4 days, the Howard CC women's basketball team played a nearly flawless game to upset the Montgomery Raptors 94-75. The win moves the Dragons to 12-5 overall and 5-4 in conference.

In what was one of the most impressive performances for HCC in years, the Dragons came into the game significantly undersized compared to their opponents. However, the Dragons utilized a combination of speed and tenacity for all six players that stepped foot on the court in maroon. The Dragons were able to constantly beat Montgomery College with speed as they scored 30 fastbreak points on their way to an immaculate 62 points in the paint helping them to a 56% field goal percentage.

In fact, 5 of the 6 Dragons finished the game with 15 points or more with only star guard Sam Heisig (Glenelg, MD, Glenelg HS)finishing with less as she provided a paltry 8 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 6 steals, and 2 blocks.Lis Parks (Columbia, MD, St. Johns HS)came into the game with a lot more confidence in her jump shot with 9 points in the first quarter alone, finishing with 15 and 8 rebounds along with 2 big blocks.

However, it wasRebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty HS)who once again showed off her candidacy of conference player of the year with 24 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 blocks.Knowlej Thomas (Columbia, MD, Mt. Hebron HS)came off the bench for the Dragons with lights out shooting, ending the game with 15 points on 6-7 shooting and 2-3 from behind the arc to go with 5 rebounds.Ebony Anderson (Baltimore, MD, Catonsville HS) rounded out the Dragons complete team effort with 16 points and 7 rebounds while playing fantastic post defense against a player that was significantly taller.

The Dragons will look to continue their momentum as they travel to the College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday February 2nd at 5 PM.
