Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dragons Comeback Falls Just Short In Season Finale

The Howard CC men's basketball season mercifully came to a close as they fell to Prince George's CC 87-84 in their season finale. That puts the Dragons final record for the 2015-16 season at 4-20 and 1-13 in the conference.

Prince George's shot 63% from the floor in the first half on their way to a 48-29 halftime lead. Conversely, the Dragons shot 31% in the first half with only Terrell Willis (Washington D.C., Chapel Gate Christian) providing any kind of significant offensive threat with 14 first half points on 5-7 shooting.

The Owls got up by as much as 23 points with just 13 minutes left in the game until the Dragons went on a 17-3 run cutting the lead down to 5 with 2:30 left. After an Owls 3-pointer, Juwan Grant (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City HS) (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore City HS) was fouled by PG guard Trevon Wright. Realizing it was his 5th foul and was out of the game, Wright expressed his displeasure with the call in a manner that forced the referees to call a technical foul on him, giving Grant four free throws. After making the first three, he missed the last one only to have his twin brother John Grant Jr. (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City HS) (Baltimore, MD, Baltimore City HS) grab the offensive rebound and made a lay-up to cut the lead to three with just 1:49 left.

From there, it was a combination of missed shots for the Dragons and missed free throws for the Owls for the next minute and a half. The Owls finished the game 5-23 from the charity line which allowed HCC back into the game. A couple of late Willis lay-ups got the score to within two points, allowing the Dragons to get the ball with seven seconds left in a one possession game. Unfortuantely, Juwan Grant (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City HS)'s pass was intercepted by the Owls and the Dragons lost their chance to complete the comeback.

Willis led the Dragons with a career high 23 points in his final game for HCC as he combined outside shooting with decisive drives to the basket. Kyle Davis (Washington D.C., Wakefield HS) scored his most points in a game since November with 15 points on 6-7 shooting. The Grant twins finished their Dragons' careers with each getting a double-double as Juwan Grant (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City HS) had 15 points and 10 rebounds John Grant Jr. (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City HS) with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Nathan Bonsu (Silver Spring, MD, James Hubert Blake HS) added 8 points off the bench and J.P. Herbert (Gaithersburg, MD, Gaithersburg HS) added 7 points and 7 rebounds.
