Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Late Surge Propels Dragons Over Suffolk

The Howard CC women's lacrosse team scored the last four goals of the game to surge ahead of Suffolk CC for a big 14-12 victory. The win improves the Dragons record to 7-1 on the season as they currently enjoy the #2 ranking in the NJCAA.

Playing in their 4th game in 6 days and playing in New York on consecutive days, fatigue must surely be a factor at this point. However, the Dragons were able to erase a 2nd half deficit by relying on a pair of budding freshmen stars. Cassidy Delaney (Ellicott City, MD, Marriotts Ridge High School) came through for the Dragons in a big way as she put in 7 goals and 1 assist along with 6 draw controls. Delaney put in the game winning goal with 4 minutes left in the game as she put in a total of 13 goals in the two games this weekend.

Another big performance was needed from Audrey Ford (Woodbine, MD, Glenelg HS) as she put in 4 goals for the second straight game and added an assist as Ford continues to increase her presence in the Dragon's offense. Rebeka Coughlin (Sykesville, MD, Liberty High School) accumulated 2 goals and an assist along with 2 draw controls and 3 caused turnovers while Ivana Yakovleff (Columbia, MD, Springbrook High School) scored a goal and earned 3 ground balls while Nina Branch (Glen Burnie, MD, North County High School) and Silvia Kim (Clarksville, MD, River Hill High School) each tallied an assist.

The HCC defense stepped up when they were really needed as Nicole Cote (Elkridge, MD, Long Reach High School), Danielle Spencer (Rockville, MD, Richard Montgomery High School), Savanna Holt (West Friendship, MD, Glenelg High School) and the entire defensive unit was able to shut out Suffolk CC over the last 10 minutes of the game with Ellie Garvey (Elkridge, MD, Francis Scott Key) getting 8 saves on 20 shots to pick up her 7th win of the season between the pipes.

The Dragons exhausting stretch continues as they host CCBC Essex at the Dragons Lair on Tuesday April 12th for a 4 PM start.
