Toler Strikes Howard Into Regional Championship

Columbia, MD - An incredible long range shot by Kylie Toler (Fulton, MD/Reservoir) was all the Dragons needed to advance to the Regional/District Championship game as she scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Anne Arundel.

Howard got out to a quick start, putting a few early shots towards the Riverhawks goal and enjoying the vast majority of the possession.

After almost 40 minutes of frustration finally turned into elation for the home crowd as Nikki Vieira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colégio Adventista) was able to hold up a long ball and lay it off to Toler who smashed a shot from almost 30 yards out and into the net to take the lead.

The Riverhawks played all 90 minutes without using a single substitution and the fatigue clearly set in towards the later parts of the game. However, the Riverhawks found some opportunities on the break and managed eight shots in the second half, but Dragons goalkeeper Cassandra Padellford (Truckee, CA/Truckee) was up to the task with six saves on the day.

Howard had a few chances late to seal the game but were unable to secure the insurance goal on multiple occassions. Nonetheless, a dominating performance by the Dragons will see them take on Oxford College of Emory University in the Region 20/District H championship game on Saturday, October 27 at 12 PM in the Dragons Lair.

This will be a rematch from the overtime thriller played at a neutral site in North Carolina in the regular season with the Eagles winning 2-1 on September 8.
