Columbia, MD - The Howard CC men's soccer team helped the Dragons sweep the day as two first half goals were enough to win the day.
In a hard nosed affair that saw the two teams combine for 33 fouls along with 28 combined shots, it remained scoreless for the first 30 minutes of a physical battle.
In the 33rd minute, it was
Cesar Torres (Jessup, MD/Hammond) who was able to set up star striker Anderson Marroquinn for his 23rd goal of the season to get the Dragons on top.
The Riverhawks tied it up four minutes later when goalkeeper
Simon Bradford (Columbia, MD/Hammond) aggressively collided with Noah Beall in the box with Beall scoring from the penalty spot.
It took just three minutes for Howard to regain the lead as a Riverhawks hand ball in the box gave Howard a penalty kick. Sophomore defender and captain
Bryce Waller (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) took the ball and stepped up to power the ball into the back of the net for his first goal of the season at a very opportune time.
The Riverhawks had their chances late, but Howard held on to win as they return to the National Tournament in Herkimer, NY for a second straight year.
