Dragons Lose High Scoring Season Opener 104-96

Columbia, MD - An exciting and fast paced game saw two strong teams score a ton of points, but it was the Potomac State Catamounts who took the victory 104-96.

The Dragons struggled for much of the first half to keep pace with the Catamounts, but only went into halftime down by five thanks to a 9-0 run to end the first half thanks to three pointers from Brandon Howell (Suitland, MD/Henry Wise) and Amar Shivers (Washington, DC/Central) along with a three point play by Jesse Calloway (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage).

Shivers started the second half with a jumper to make it a three point deficit, before the Catamounts opened their lead up for the next 10 minutes.

Once again the home team surged back as a three point play by Deven Richmond (Bear, DE/DeMatha) and layups by Jordan Reid (Silver Spring, MD/Albert Einstein) and Jareem Lovette (Warsaw, NC/James Kenan) cut the Potomac State lead to 82-81 with six minutes left.

Richmond got to the free throw line on the next possession and drained both freebies to tie the game at 83-83. After Potomac State extended the lead to five, Reid hit a huge three pointer to keep the game within range and made a couple late free throws to make it a 95-93 Catamounts lead with a minute and a half left.

That was the closest Howard got as Potomac State closed out the game well to not give the Dragons a chance to comeback.

Reid led all scorers in the game with 22 points with Calloway (18 points), Howell (14 points), Shivers (13 points) and Lovette (10 points) all finished in double-digit scoring.

The Dragons will now head to Shippensburg University for a scrimmage on Saturday, November 3 at 5 PM.
