Herkimer, NY
– An exciting back and forth affair saw the Dragons men's soccer team end their season on a high note with a 4-3 win over #4 seed Camden County.

Camden County got an early chance with a shot off the cross bar followed by a header just wide as the Dragons were lucky to avert an early disaster.

Howard struck lightning from seemingly nothing as Anthony Perez Rodriguez (Columbia, MD/Hammond) hit a 20 yard shot fading away from goal which was hit with such force that it carried over the Cougars' goalkeeper and into the net to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead after 10 minutes of play.

The Dragons doubled up their lead seven minutes later as a Anthony Salmans (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) made a great tackle in the Camden County to win the ball up to Anderson Mejia Marroquin (Elkridge, MD/Hammond) who made a sweet pass to Daniel Fuentes (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) completely open in the middle of the box and Fuentes slotted the ball into the net.

Howard nearly scored a third in the 24th minute when Marroquin got through on goal and hit a hard shot that the Cougars' goalkeeper deflected into the crossbar with the ball then falling right into the path of Salmans, but his shot went just wide of the open net.

Camden County pulled one back after 30 minutes of play when a 50 yard long ball by Carlos Medeiros that found the path of Luis Guerra who finished beautifully to cut the Dragons' lead in half.

It took just two more minutes for the Cougars to tie the game in controversial fashion as Lautaro Berisso appeared to be offside when receiving a pass at midfield, but was given the chance to dribble around an aggressive Simon Bradford (Columbia, MD/Hammond) and score into an open net.

The action continued to stay fast paced as the 33rd minute saw the Dragons earn a penalty kick on a high elbow in the box that Bryce Waller (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) was able to score into the bottom right corner of the net to give Howard the lead back at 3-2.

Fuentes nearly gave Howard an insurance goal 10 minutes into the second half when he curled a free kick that caromed off the cross bar.

The whirlwind affair continued when a miraculous 30 yard strike by Camden County was chipped over Bradford and into the Dragons goal to tie the game again at 3-3.

With time ticking down and Howard a man up after a Cougars red card, Jose Garcia Monterrosa (El Salvador/Colegio San Franciso) dispossessed a Camden County defender deep in their own territory and he coolly slid the ball to a wide open Fuentes who scored his second goal of the game to take the lead back with just nine minutes left in the second half.

Camden County picked up another red car late on and were unable to come back with just nine men on the field as Howard held on for an exciting 4-3 win to finish out their season that included 14 yellow cards, 10 of which to the Cougars, along with the two red cards.
