Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#3 Dragons get critical MD JUCO win over #5 Riverhawks

The #3 Howard Community College (HCC) Men's Lacrosse program earned a big 13-8 victory over the #5 Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) Riverhawks on a sloppy Wednesday afternoon. Both teams enter the game as the top two teams in Maryland, as this game has become one of the best MD JUCO matchups in recent years. Head Coach Erik Foust said "its fun and exciting for healthy and intense competition at the same time".

This game showed flashes of brilliance in all areas of the game. In the first quarter, defense was the name of the game. Both HCC and AACC were looking to take an advantage, but both teams made goals a premium in the first quarter as the Dragons found itself with a narrow 2-1 lead.

In the second quarter the Dragons potent offense woke up in a big way, by outscoring the Riverhawks 5-2 and taking firm control of the game going into halftime with a score of 7-3.

HCC came out of the break looking to put AACC out of the game, but the Riverhawks had different plans taking advantage of critical opportunities by outscoring the Dragons 4-3 on the quarter.

Entering the fourth quarter the Dragons were looking to finish the game strong and put the Riverhawks away for good. The fourth quarter was similar to the second, where HCC showed its ability to control a game, by outscoring AACC 4-2 to close out the victory.

Offensively, the Dragons showed once again that it is one of the most creative and exciting offenses in the country. HCC used a balanced attack to outscore AACC with Ian Decker (Orlando, FL, Dr. Phillips), Chris Rinehart (Sykesville, MD, Century), and Austin Norton (Annapolis, MD, Mount Saint Joseph) each tallying 3 goals apiece. Decker and Rinehart along withBraden Martin (Frederick, MD, Middletown), and Jake Mackenzie (Mount Airy, MD, South Carroll) led the way for HCC in the assist column with all four recording 1 assist.

Defensively, HCC's Goalie TJ Ellis (Mount Airy, MD, Oakdale) came up big in the last minutes of the game making critical saves stopping any momentum AACC had from multiple man up situations.

With the win, the Dragons improve to (5-1, 2-0) on the season. HCC returns to action on Saturday March 31st as they hit the road to take on Delaware Technical Community College (Del Tech) in Dover DE. Stay tuned for more information on game time.
