The Howard Community College (HCC) Dragons men's lacrosse season came to an end Saturday afternoon against the defending national champions Onondaga (OCC) Lazers by a score of 23-12.
OCC started off the game strong, by scoring the first two goals of the game. HCC would respond, by scoring two of its own to tie the game up at 2-2. However, that would be the last time the score was even as the Lazers went on a six goal run to end the first quarter and never looked back.
The Dragons were led on the offensive side of the ball by
Chris Rinehart (Sykesville, MD/Century) (4 goals),
Ian Decker (Orlando, FL/Dr. Phillips) (3 goals, 1 assist), and
Will Smith (Rockville, MD/Rockville) (3 goals, 1 assist) who each ended the game with four points. In addition to those three,
Daniel Pirrone (Middletown, MD/Middletown) and
Shawn Simpson (Gaithersburg, MD/Watkins Mill) added goals for HCC.
Despite the Dragons efforts, OCC proved to be too deep of a team for the HCC to stop. The Lazers had five players tied with three goals apiece and a total of 12 Lazers got at least a goal in the game.Â
TJ Ellis (Mount Airy, MD/Oakdale) ended the game with 10 saves for HCC. In front of Ellis,
Dayton Fisher (Hanover, MD/Howard) and
Shane Trout (Elkridge, MD/Howard) both recorded three caused turnovers for the Dragons.Â
