Dragons Shutout Fighting Owls 3-0

  • The Short Story: A strong showing from the Dragons was highlighted by a hat trick from Howard striker Anderson Mejia Marroquin (Elkridge, MD/Hammond) as the hosts upset a powerful Fighting Owls squad. 
How It Happened
  • The Dragons got off to a roaring start with Anthony Perez Rodriguez (Columbia, MD/Hammond) flipping the ball up to himself over a defender and fired a shot just wide left.
  • Harford came right back as Rezon Ahmati creating a chance for himself and shooting low, but Simon Bradford (Columbia, MD/Hammond) was in great position to make the save.
  • Howard's pressure paid off in the 22nd minute as Noel Diaz (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) was able to slide the ball into the box for Anderson Mejia Marroquin (Elkridge, MD/Hammond) who was able to find the top right corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season.
  • Mejia Marroquin bagged a brace early in the second half when a cross by Daniel Fuentes (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) cross was collected and fired into the top right corner to give Howard a 2-0 lead.
  • Noel Diaz (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) broke free down the left side of the field multiple times, creating some excellent scoring chances that he was just barely unable to convert as both shots went wide left.
  • Mejia Marroquin completed his hat trick on the day as he pounced on a Daniel Fuentes (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) free kick shot that was saved straight to the Dragons forward who simply walked the ball into the net.
  • In the end, Howard simply outplayed Harford on the day, outshooting the visitors 26-11 (15-3 for shots on goal.

  • The Dragons will now prepare for one of their toughest tests of the year as powerhouse conference rivals Harford comes to town on Tuesday, September at 4 PM.
  • The Harford Fighting Owls are 1-1 start the 2018 season after a 7-0 win over Onondaga and a 9-1 loss versus Monroe College.
