Columbia, MD - The Dragons returned home to face powerhouse Baltimore City Community College where they fell short to the Panthers 78-45.
Sabreen Muslim (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) continued to be the leader for Howard as she continued her strong presence in the match with a double-double with 16 rebounds and 15 points. Howard had to get themselves out of a deficit as Baltimore CIty jumped out to an 8-0 lead. Shanta Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Suitland) was able to end the Panthers streak with a three point jumper. A strong defensive performance in the first quarter kept the score close at 17-11 after 10 minutes of play.
At the start of the second quarter, Mia McCormick (Philadelphia, PA/River Hill) made a fast break layup to cut the Panthers lead to just four. Baltimore City immediately answered with a 17-0 run to put a damper on the mood of the home crowd as Howard was outscored 22-4 in the second stanza.
Johnson would go on to hit a couple more shots from long range as she scored 13 points in the game while Ashley McInerney added seven points and seven rebounds, but the Dragons were never able to work themselves back into the game.
The Dragons will stay at home as they host a crucial conference match against the College of Southern Maryland on Wednesday, January 23 at 5 PM.
