Columbia, MD – A dominating first quarter set the tone for a big conference victory for the Dragons as Howard defeated Allegany 77-39. This is the first conference win for Howard since February 2, 2016 in a 70-51 result at Prince George's.
Utilizing a significant size advantage,
Sabreen Muslim (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) put on another dominating display as she earned a double-double early in the second quarter on the way to a 39 point, 25 rebound performance.
The Dragons defense put up their best defensive performance of the season with their opponents shooting just 18% from the field while being held to single digit points in the first and fourth quarters.
Mia McCormick (Philadelphia, PA/River Hill) was a big reason for that defensive success, as her eight steals were the second most for her in a game this season combined with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a near triple-double performance.
Howard dominated the glass with the Dragons out-rebounding the Trojans 79-38 in the contest with
Cassandra Padellford (Truckee, CA/Truckee) chipping in 12 rebounds. Point guard
Shanta Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Suitland) added nine rebounds along with seven assists as she continues to grow into her role as a playmaker on the team.
The Dragons will next host another conference rival as Prince George's comes to town on Wednesday, January 9 at 5 PM.
