Dragons Win Turkey Hoop Shoot Tournament

Randolph, NJ - The Howard CC Dragons traveled to New Jersey for the second weekend in a row and made it three for three as they won the Turkey Hoop Shoot Classic hosted by the County College of Morris thanks to an 82-52 win over Orange County and an 80-59 win over Morris.

In the tournament opener, the Dragons jumped all over the Orange County Colts in a dominant 25-9 first quarter and were able to cruise to victory from there.

Brianna Jones (Largo, MD/Largo) once again led the squad with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists along with three blocks. Mia McCormick (Philadelphia, PA/River Hill) scored 17 points with four steals while Tyteana Seymore (Washington, D.C./Columbia Heights) scored 15 and Shanta Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Suitland) added 12.

Ciara Little (New Haven, CT/James Hillhouse) only scored five points, but was huge all over the court with seven steals and six assists.

In the tournament championship game, once again it was the Dragons with a fantastic start going ahead 23-14 in the first quarter on their way to outscoring their opponents in all four quarters.

Seymore led the team with 23 points including five makes from long range to earn the tournament MVP trophy. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by Jones who scored 16 points along with 17 rebounds as she now has recorded a double-double in six of the first eight games on the year.

Johnson scored 13 points thanks in large part to a trio of treys while Little was again all over the stat sheet with nine points, four rebounds, five assists and six steals. Kiyah King (Cambridge, MD/Oakland Mills) chipped in seven points with Ashlyn McInerney (Hyattsville, MD/Hammond) and McCormick each adding six.

Howard will have little time to rest as they host perhaps their most challenging game of the season as they face the #12 nationally ranked CCBC Essex Knights in a big conference showdown.
