Columbia, MD -
Kyrstin Bowen (Westminster, MD/Mount Airy Christian) matched a career high 12 blocks including nine in the first half as the Dragons fantastic defense allowed them to cruise for an easy 64-51 conference victory over the Hagerstown Hawks.
The Hawks scored the first point of the game on a free throw, but
Mia McCormick (Philadelphia, PA/River Hill) made a fastbreak layup thanks to an
Ashlyn McInerney (Hyattsville, MD/Hammond) steal to wipe out the only lead Hagerstown would have in the game. McCormick would soon after knock down a three pointer as she scored five of her eight points in the first quarter.
Brianna Jones (Largo, MD/Largo) was a driving force all over the court, scoring 17 points with 15 rebounds, six steals and four assists.
Tyteana Seymore (Washington, D.C./Columbia Heights) was hitting shots early and often as she added 14 points and seven rebounds.
But once again, it was the Howard defense that spurred the Dragons to victory as Bowen's 12 blocks was combined with 19 steals and 29 caused turnovers. Bowen now has recorded double-digit blocks in three of her last four games and leads the conference in blocks per gameÂ
The Dragons will now prepare for the Title IX DC Classic for three games over three days starting with a game against Harford on Friday, December 27 at 4:30 PM at the Washington DC Armory.
