Harford Takes Down Howard 11-6

Bel Air, MD – The Dragons traveled to the #2 ranked Harford Fighting Owls and were unable to overcome the veteran Harford squad, losing 11-6.

Both teams came out playing a very physical brand of lacrosse with good scoring opportunities being hard to come by.

After 10 minutes of scoreless play, Colvin Prosser (Kennesaw, GA/Lassiter) broke through as his long range contested shot found the top of the net to give Howard the early lead.

Jeremy Sforzo (Vail, CO/Battle Mountain) was able to break a four goal Harford run as he took the ball from behind the cage and was able to spin around the front, bouncing a shot into the top of the net.

Bobby Solomon (Fairfax, VA/Woodson) broke another long draught for the Dragons late in the third quarter as he backed in his defender an ripped a shot into the top corner to cut the deficit to 8-3.

A fantastic pass across the goal by Joseph Montesano (Edgewater, MD/Damascus) found Sforzo wide open on the back post as Howard was finally able to gain some momentum before Harford scored a last minute goal to take a 9-4 lead into the final period.

Solomon scored another goal right in front of the net on a behind the back shot early in the fourth quarter.

The Dragons were given a golden opportunity for a comeback on a two minute Harford penalty and were able to capitalize on a Jack Watsic (Frederick, MD/Linganore) snipe from another great Montesano assist to make it a 10-6 Fighting Owl lead with 10 minutes left. Unfortunately for Howard, that was the closest they would get at a comeback as they were held scoreless the rest of the contest.

Howard goalkeeper Tim Russell (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) came up with 19 saves in a great effort between the pipes, but the Dragons were outshot 44-27 in the contest. Face-off specialist Jake Griffin (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) came through with a  fine performance, winning 9-17 in the circle.

The Dragons will return home to face Mercer County on Sunday, March 24 for a 2:30 PM start.
