Columbia, MD - The Dragons jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but Anne Arundel took over control from there and ultimately routed Howard 22-5.
Marielle Henriquez (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) got the Dragons going with a first minute goal thanks to the first of three draw controls by
Maddie Reeser (Sykesville, MD/Century) to gain possession for Howard.
Reeser grabbed another draw control on the ensuing possession which allowed
Kristen Ogle (Sykesville, MD/Century) to find
Sandra Naylor (Elkridge, MD/Mt. DeSales) wide open in front of the net for her first goal of the season.
Anne Arundel scored the next five in a row before Ogle dodged three defenders to score and cut into the Riverhawks lead as it appeared that Howard would make it a tough game.
Ogle and Naylor combined again midway through the first half as the Dragons still trailed 8-4, but another 5-0 Riverhawks run was answered by Cassandra Padellford scoring her first goal of the season.
The Dragons continued to fight throughout the contest as Naylor completed her hat trick in the second half on a free position shot along with
Noelle Dawson (Catonsville, MD/Kings Academy) scoring her first goal of the season on a free position.
Ogle filled the stat sheet again with seven draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers to go with her three points while Naylor added five draw controls and two ground balls to her name.
Chanel Shaw (Kaneohe, HI/North Ridge) made five saves between the pipes in her first start for the Dragons.
The schedule doesn't get any friendlier for the Dragons as they travel to #1 ranked Harford on Monday, April 1 at 4 PM.
