Garden City, NY – The #1 ranked Nassau Lions proved too much for the #4 ranked Dragons as Howard fell 19-11.
The Lions got on the board first after 90 seconds of play, but
Bobby Solomon (Fairfax, VA/Woodson) quickly answered as he picked up a loose ball in front of the net and dunked it in to tie the game at 1-1.
Solomon again scored to tie the game just two minutes later as his fade away low to high shot found the roof of the net.
A penalty on
Jake Griffin (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) led to a man up goal for Nassau to once again take the lead for Nassau which started a 4-0 run to end the first quarter.
The Dragons started the second quarter out well as
Jeremy Sforzo (Vail, CO/Battle Mountain) made a pass from behind the cage to
Jack Watsic (Frederick, MD/Linganore) who hit the low corner to cut into the Nassau lead.
With time running down on the shot clock, Leshun Gunn ripped a long shot off the cross bar as the rebound somehow ended up all the way down to Howard goalkeeper
Tim Russell (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) on the ground ball. The Dragons moved the ball quickly back up the field and a pass from
Drew Goode (Gambrills, MD/Arundel) to
Colvin Prosser (Kennesaw, GA/Lassiter) brought Howard back to an 8-4 deficit.
Prosser doubled up this tally with just 28 seconds left in the second quarter with the Dragons trailing 12-5 at the break.
The Dragons took advantage of a couple man-up opportunities as Solomon finished his hat trick and Sforzo scored a goal for his nation leading 55
th point on the season.
Howard went on a hot streak in the fourth quarter, scoring the first four goals and keeping Nassau scoreless in the quarter until the Lions finally scored with 30 seconds left.
Joe Beville (Gaithersburg MD/Quince Orchard),
Jake Polinsky (Sykesville, MD/Marriotts Ridge),
Jackson Krasny (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti) and
Joseph Montesano (Edgewater, MD/Damascus) accounted for the fourth quarter goals with Polinsky also picking up a couple of assists as the Lions gave up the most goals to any team all season long.
Goalkeeper
Tim Russell (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) made 12 saves in the contest while his defense was led by
Johnny Chaisson (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) and
Jason McElroy (Frederick, MD/Oakdale) who combined for seven ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
The Dragons will complete their Long Island swing as they take on #7 ranked Suffolk County on Sunday, April 14 at 1 PM.
