Columbia, MD - For the second time this season, the Dragons defeated a top 10 nationally ranked team at home as they blasted the #7 ranked Cecil Seahawks 111-85. With the win, the Dragons have won more games this year than the last four years combined in an incredible turn around for the men's basketball program.
Fresh off getting back in the NJCAA national rankings as the #20 Division II team, Howard came out aggressive as they got to the basket and benefited from the charity stripe on their way to a 50-33 first half lead. The Dragons never let up as they continued to open up their lead on their way to matching their highest point total of the season.
Daeshawn Eaton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) was unstoppable on the evening, as he scored 29 points including a 14-14 performance from the free throw line along with 10 assists and 10 rebounds for his first career collegiate triple-double.
Christian Matthews (Clinton, MD/National Christian) added a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while
Michael Gray (Glendale, MD/Bowie) chipped in 11.
DJ Tucker-Harry (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) put in a huge effort for the Dragons with 10 points and seven rebounds in 14 important minutes off the bench.
Kelvin Sellman (Temple Hills, MD/Crossland) added nine points and five rebounds as Howard had 10 different scorers in the game.
The Dragons will now prepare for the regional tournament hosted by Howard Community College with the quarterfinals of the eight team tournament taking place on Friday, March 6 with the time and opponent to be determined.
