Columbia, MD – The #2 seeded Dragons defeated the #6 seed Garrett Lakers by double-digits for the second time this season, this time by the score of 82-69 to win the regional tournament semifinals.
Howard took the early lead with
Joel Webb (Forestville, MD/Wise) scoring on a nice assist by
Michael Gray (Glendale, MD/Bowie); a lead the Dragons would never relinquish in the game.
Deven Richmond (Bowie, MD/DeMatha) made his presence known early as he scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half with a lot of layups and monster dunks to put the Lakers on their back heels as Howard took a 13 point lead into the half time break.
In the latter period,
Naquan Williams-Day (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) caught fire, scoring 17 of his 21 points in the second half including a couple of three pointers to lead all scorers in the game.
Christian Matthews (Clinton, MD/National Christian) put together another efficient game with 15 points, eight rebounds and five blocks in 24 minutes of play while
Daeshawn Eaton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) played the entire second half and scored 12 points with seven rebounds.
Kelvin Sellman (Temple Hills, MD/Crossland) led the team with seven assists while also swiping a trio of steals.
The Dragons advance to the regional tournament championship game where they will take on #4 seed CCBC Dundalk on Sunday, March 8 at 4 PM. Howard lost the regular season match at Dundalk back on January 25 in controversial fashion as the Lions were able to get a buzzer beating tip-in to topple the Dragons.
