Columbia, MD – The #3 seed Dragons were unable to overcome the size of the #2 seed Chesapeake Skipjacks as they fell in the regional tournament semifinals 81-49. The Dragons incredible season comes to an end in what will forever be known as the first 20-win season in program history.
Howard got out to a slow start in the game, shooting just 3-14 from the field in the first quarter and were trailing 14-7. While the Dragons' offense started to come alive after that, the whole was dug deeper as the size of Chesapeake combined with an abundance of fouls called against Howard made things difficult for the home team.
Brianna Jones (Largo, MD/Largo) finished the game with 14 points and 10 rebounds, recording her 21
st double-double of the season in her final game as a Dragon.
Ciara Little (New Haven, CT/James Hillhouse) scored 11 points with four steals and
Kyrstin Bowen (Westminster, MD/Mount Airy Christian) added 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks before fouling out.
Mia McCormick (Philadelphia, PA/River Hill) chipped in six points and
Ashlyn McInerney (Hyattsville, MD/Hammond) scored five before also fouling out.
The Dragons fantastic season comes to an end with Howard now forced to say goodbye to a sophomore class that includes Jones, McInerney, McCormick,
Shanta Johnson (Upper Marlboro, MD/Suitland),
Cassandra Marks (Columbia, MD/Long Reach), and
Cassandra Padellford (Truckee, CA/Truckee).
