Zajac Leads Dragons In Rout Over Southern Maryland

Columbia, MD - The Dragons rebounded from a tough loss earlier in the week to blast the College of Southern Maryland Hawks by the score of 31-3 in their regular season finale.

Howard jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Southern Maryland scored two goals early in the second quarter. After that the Dragons wore out the depleted Hawks squad and cruised to victory.

Brian Zajac (Brookeville MD/Good Counsel) led the way with five goals and three assists while Drew Goode (Gambrills MD/Arundel) led the team with four assists along with two goals. Cole Blanche (Mount Airy, MD/Linganore) and Jackson Krasny (Hagerstown, MD/Saint Maria Goretti) each scored four goals each and five other players scored two goals each highlighted by the first collegiate goals for Dewey Schoenfelder (Sykesville, MD/South Carroll). With the game well in hand, the Dragons heavily rotated the squad which allowed 15 different Dragons to score goals including defensive minded players such as Connor Gladstone (Warrenton, VA/Kettle Run), Cristian Quesada (Baltimore, MD/Cristo Rey Jesuit), and Asher Minich (Camas, WA/Camas).

Howard played all three goalkeepers with Ben Shapero (Gaithersburg, MD/Quince Orchard) making his first two collegiate saves and faceoff specialist Terrance Harmon was amazing, winning 30-36 and snagging 20 groundballs in the process.

The Dragons will now travel to CCBC Essex for the second time in a week as the two rivals will clash in the Region 20 tournament semifinals on Wednesday, April 28 at 7 PM.
