La Plata, MD - Five unanswered goals led the Dragons to a fourth consecutive victory to start the season as they defeated the College of Southern Maryland Hawks 5-1.
The Hawks stunned everyone on the field when they scored a goal 20 seconds into their season debut as the Dragons were caught off guard. While Howard would recover quickly, it took 24 minutes to get that goal back as
Madalyn Nichols (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) set up
Yassine Kamara (Hyattsville, MD/Parkdale) for the break away goal.
In the closing minutes of the first half, Nichols teed up
Jenna Naumann (Sykesville, MD/Century) who rifled a shot that was saved by the Hawks goalkeeper, but
Tahlia Stangherlin (Hanover, MD/Pallotti) was there to pounce on the rebound and score to give the Dragons a halftime lead.
Nichols went on to score two second half penalty kick goals and Naumann added a late goal on a long shot to ultimately give the Dragons a comfortable win.
Goalkeeper
Hailey Murray (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) made a season high five saves despite conceding her first goal allowed this season.
The Dragons will now prepare for their biggest test of the regular season as they travel to the #1 nationally ranked CCBC Essex Knights on Tuesday, April 26 at 7 PM.
