Madison Dzubak (Highland, MD/River Hill) scored on the opening goal and assisted another as the #1 seeded Dragons easily fended off the #4 seed Potomac State Catamounts 6-0 in the regional tournament semifinals.
Dzubak scored just 24 seconds into the game to set the tone of a tenacious Howard CC side.
Kayla Hatmaker (Woodbine, MD/Century) hit a long range snipe from almost 30 yards out to double the lead as the Dragons took a 2-0 lead into halftime despite dominating possession.
Potomac State showed signs of fatigue in the second half with the barrage of shots from the Dragons led by
Madalyn Nichols (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) who scored her 11th and 12th goals of the season.
Juliana Hill (Woodstock, MD/Seton) scored on a wily assist from
Lillian Scott (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) followed by
Tessa Cinotti (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) closing out the scoring with a late penalty kick.
The Dragons defense led by Hatmaker,
Clara Janush (Laurel, MD/Reservoir), Josie Stubbs, and Celia Jackson didn't allow a single shot in the contest while the Dragons piled up 53, allowing
Hailey Murray (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) to record her sixth shutout of the season.
Howard CC will advance to the Region 20 championship where they will face the #2 seed CCBC Essex Knights on Saturday, May 15 at 12 PM. The Dragons won the regular season showdown between the two teams in a 2-1 victory at Essex.
