Catonsville, MD - A challenging season for the Howard CC men's soccer season came to an end as they fell 3-0 to the #2 seeded CCBC Catonsville Cardinals in the Region 20 tournament semifinals.
In a season filled with injuries, overtimes, and other obstacles, the perseverance of the Dragons allowed them to close out the season with a positive record as they were able to grit out victories time and again.
Howard started the game out with positive news that
Didier Estrada (/Northwestern) returned from injury to play in just his fourth game of the season. His impact was immediately felt as his through ball sent
Leonard Dunor (/Sheyenne) on his way to a great early shot that went just wide of the net. A little later,
Michael Fields (/Howard) hit a picture perfect cross that Estrada got his head on only to see the ball go just wide of the net.
The Dragons were able to get several other good looks on goal as
Kyle Eylanbekov (/Wilde Lake),
Carlos Reys (/Laurel), and
Luis Rangel-Mora (/Long Reach) all tried the Cardinals goalkeeper only to see him up to the test.
Gabriel Viteri (/Wilde Lake) made four saves and the Dragons valiant defense was able to keep star forward Williams Yami from scoring, but ultimately were unable to find their way back into the game.
The loss ends Howard's season at 5-4-1, but they will have a shortened break as they will return to their regularly scheduled fall season in August.
