Rockville, MD - In a game that fired up the long-standing rivalry between the neighboring teams, the Montgomery Raptors pulled off an overtime win over the Howard Dragons 2-1.
The Raptors came into the game with just 11 healthy players and dealt with a number of nagging issues
throughtout the contest, often playing with less than 11 players on the field. Yet, it was Montgomery who scored first as an Anthony Jimenez free kick into the top left corner of the opened up the scoring in the first half. The action on the field was physical and emotional with nine yellow cards being handed out and 32 fouls being called.

The Dragons had a multitude of chances throughout the game, ultimately racking up 27 shots in the match. It took until the 82nd minute for those chances to finally pay off As the Raptors were short handed and fatigued. After a sloppy turnover,
Mahmoud Mansour (/Homeschool) played a perfectly weighted through ball to
Leonard Dunor (/Sheyenne) who rifled a shot into the bottom left corner of the net to tie the game in dramatic fashion and send it to overtime.
Â
In the extra period, the Dragons had 4 great chances at goal that were all saved by Raptors goalkeeper Marvin Mendez. With all the momentum going towards the Dragons and against the run of play, Montgomery caught Howard by surprise as a Khalb Mesfin pass found Joseph Kitengie in the box for the golden goal to end the game.
