Columbia, MD - A sluggish start was outdone by a strong finish as the Dragons were able to defeat the Anne Arundel Riverhawks 54-40.

The Riverhawks came into the game with just five players, but those five came out firing in the first quarter with 18 points in the first quarter to put the Dragons in a hole.

Kori People (Washington, D.C./Central) then started to take back control of the game as she scored eight of her game high 22 points in the second quarter to close the gap going into halftime. Howard was able to regain the lead midway through the third quarter with strong defense as they held Anne Arundel to just 13 second half points.

India Young (Springdale, MD/Charles H. Flowers) was a dominating post presence in the game with 10 points and a career high 18 rebounds while Tajah Goodman (Washington, D.C./South Hagerstown) scored 10. Kalani Corkeron (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) chipped in six points and 10 rebounds while Sarah Deese (Woodbine, MD/Century) hit two from long range to add six points of her own.

The Dragons will have a quick turnaround as they host Monroe College-Bronx 24 hours on Saturday, January 22 at 6 PM.
