Columbia, MD -
Julia Harrington (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City College) and
Mikiyah Mallett (Pasadena, MD/Old Mill) each recorded a double-double as they helped the Dragons dominate the Harford Fighting Owls 66-40.
Howard set the tone early with a 10-1 run to start the game, with the defense dominating to the point where Harford took nine minutes of play to make their first field goal with the Dragons leading 16-6 in a low scoring first quarter.
The Dragons continued to build up the lead as
Anhyia Smith (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) came off the bench to score seven straight Howard points in the second quarter with Harrington scoring a tough layup in the last minute to give Howard a 32-19 halftime lead.
The second half saw Howard grow their lead to 28 as Mallett and Harrington bullied their way through the paint with the Fighting Owls never finding an answer for the pair.Â
Harrington led the Dragons 19 points and 12 rebounds while Mallett filled up the box score with 13 points, 18 rebounds, and seven assists.
Nyla Thomas (Laurel, MD/James H. Blake),
Nhaikyia Smith (Waldorf, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti), and
Anhyia Smith (Clarksville, MD/River Hill) all finished with eight points each.
Howard will now prepare for their toughest matchup of the regular season as the #3 nationally ranked CCBC Essex Knights come to the Dragons Lair on Saturday, December 3 for a 12 PM matinee.Â
