Columbia, MD - Another great defensive effort for the Howard Dragons allowed them to easily cruise past the Beaver County Titans 82-36 in their final game ever played in the old AFC building. The gym that has been in use since 1977 will now be demolished to make way for the new athletics center that is scheduled to open in 2025.

In their last home game until the new building opens, the Dragons gave the raucous crowd a great show of stifling defense, holding the Titans to just six points in the first quarter and commanding a 35-16 halftime lead.

The third quarter is when the Dragons really found their groove offensively as they exploded for 27 points led by a great all- around performance by Nhaikyia Smith (Waldorf, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) who finished with 31 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, and six assists including four from long range.

The nearly sell out crowd also was treated to a second half burst by Rashelle Buynum (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) who added 15 points to the cause with Sydnei Harmon (Largo, MD/Charles H. Flowers) scoring 12 points on 6-7 shooting from the floor. The forward tandem of Julia Harrington (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore City College) and Mikiyah Mallett (Pasadena, MD/Old Mill) combined to score 15 points and 15 rebounds in another solid effort.

Howard improves to 7-4 on the year and 3-2 in the regional standings as they will now play the rest of their season schedule on the road starting with Harcum College on Saturday, December 17 at 12 PM.
