Columbia, MD - A great start by the Dragons was overshadowed by the Army Prep team's strong second and third quarters as they defeated Howard 18-7 in the season opener.

The Dragons had a picture perfect start, scoring the first four goals of the game in the opening seven minutes of play as Philip Petersen (Vail, CO/Eagle Valley), Zane Dalpe (Belle River, ON/Saint Anne), Brian Zajac (Brookeville MD/Good Counsel), and Kaden Brennan (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) all tallied goals. After Army pulled a couple back, Dalpe added his second of the game to give the Dragons a 5-2 lead after the first quarter.

Things went south from there for the home team, as Army scored four in a row to take a lead midway through the second quarter. Chase Noah (Darnestown, MD/St. Andrews Episcopal) lasered a shot in on a Max Bruno (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) assist to tie the game at 6-6 to try to pull momentum back towards the Dragons. 

Army took control from there, scoring the next 12 unanswered goals before Tyler Stratemeyer (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) finally broke the streak with a goal in the last minute of the game.

Chris Peterson (Saline, MI/Saline) got the start in goal for the Dragons, make 15 saves in his collegiate debut.

The Dragons will look to rebound from the loss when they travel to Stevenson University to take on the JV team at 6 PM on Friday, March 4.
