Columbia, MD -
Daeshawn Eaton (Columbia, MD/Oakland Mills) scored 25 points to lead the Dragons in a convincing 85-71 win over the College of Southern Maryland Hawks in the regional tournament quarterfinals. The win also gave head coach
Mike Smelkinson his milestone 200th career victory as a collegiate head coach in his stellar 10 year career.
The Dragons jumped all over the Hawks in the first 10 minutes of the game, leading 20-3 with Eaton slicing through the Southern Maryland defense with ease. The Dragons let up from their early momentum as the game progressed, but the final result was never really in doubt.
Hollique Johnson (Millersville, MD/Old Mill) was a huge contributor on the court, finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds while
Omar McGann (Waldorf, MD/St. Charles) added 10 more from the bench.
Cole Harshman (Baltimore, MD/Dulaney) was huge in the game with 12 points, 14 rebounds, six steals and five assists.
The Dragons will take on the Community College of Beaver County Titans in the semifinals that will take place at Garrett College on Friday, March 4. Howard won the regular season matchups between the two teams in a 70-60 back on January 29 in a game that was played in Beaver County.
