Columbia, MD – The #3 ranked Dragons won their second straight game against a top ranked opponent as they handily defeated the #6 ranked Genesee Cougars 18-7.
The Cougars shocked the Dragons on a fluke goal in the first 10 seconds of the game off a turnover. The Dragons answered back with four straight goals highlighted by Zach Wentz scoring his first goal of the season after a clean face-off win. After Genesee scored late in the first quarter to cut into the Howard lead, the second quarter was dominated by the Dragons with a 6-0 run with Wentz and
Terence Harmon (Mount Pleasant, SC/Wando) combining to go a perfect 14-14 on face-offs in the first half.
Genesee made a comeback attempt with back-to-back power play goals, but the Dragons answered it with a similar run of man-up goals. The Dragons continued to pull away late with their lead in great hands as
Chris Peterson (Saline, MI/Saline) made 18 saves and a defense led by Jackson Loftis with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Zane Dalpe (Belle River, ON/Saint Anne) was on another level with six goals while
Chase Noah (Darnestown, MD/St. Andrews Episcopal) scored a hat trick along with five assists.
Philip Petersen (Vail, CO/Eagle Valley) chipped in three goals and a couple assists while
Caleb Tatum (Kingswood, TX/Kingswood) and
Brian Zajac (Brookeville MD/Good Counsel) each tallied three points.
The Dragons will next take on the Stevenson University JV team for a second time this season on Friday, March 25 at 7 PM.
