McHenry, MD - The Dragons attempted a late comeback, but were unable to overcome a slow start as their season ended in the regional tournament semifinals against host Garrett College 61-44.
The Dragons came into the game feeling confident as they had defeated the Lakers in the regular season matchup back in December. However, Howard went up against a different Garrett side who did a great job to slow down the Dragons offense for the first three quarters. Howard was able to stage a late run with 20 fourth quarter points, but the Lakers were able to keep a comfortable lead throughout to knock the Dragons out of the tournament.
Kori People (Washington, D.C./Central) scored 17 points in the game, finishing her junior college career with 988 points over her two years. She also was able to show some great defensive play with 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocks.
India Young (Springdale, MD/Charles H. Flowers) scored eight points with eight rebounds while
Kalani Corkeron (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) and
Madison Carey (Brandywine, MD/Frederick Douglass) both pulled down double digit rebounds.Â
Howard completes the season with a 16-10 record in what will be seen as a resoundingly successful season for first year head coach
Eryn Withers. The Dragons finished the regional regular season with an 8-2 record, earning the #2 seed in the regional tournament while also sporting a 9-1 record at home on the year.Â
