Bel Air, MD - The #2 ranked Fighting Owls dominated the early parts of the game and then held on to upset the #1 ranked Dragons 19-11.
The first quarter was a perfect example of Murphy's Law for the Dragons, as Harford went ahead 5-0. Howard finally got on the board early in the second quarter as
Chase Noah (Darnestown, MD/St. Andrews Episcopal) scored on a
Philip Petersen (Vail, CO/Eagle Valley) dish, but Harford answered back with five more to make it a 10-1 lead.
The Dragons fought back late in the second quarter as
Zane Dalpe (Belle River, ON/Saint Anne) scored with Noah adding his second, but the Fighting Owls led 11-3 at halftime.
Howard went on a 3-0 run early in the third quarter with
Kaden Brennan (Kingsville, ON/Kingsville District) scoring two goals along with Petersen adding one, but again Harford answered back with four unanswered.
Max Bruno (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) scored early in the fourth quarter with Dalpe, and Petersen adding their second goals to mount one last comeback attempt, but the Fighting Owls quashed that again with a couple of goals to break the momentum.
Brian Zajac (Brookeville MD/Good Counsel) scored late along with Brennan completing his hat trick, but it was too little too late for Howard.
Chris Peterson (Saline, MI/Saline) put in another incredible effort in goal, making 13 saves on the day.
Howard will look to rebound from the tough loss when they take on Carroll at home on Wednesday, April 13 at 5 PM.
