Columbia, MD -
Joebel Gray (/Arundel) scored a hat trick in his collegiate debut as the Howard CC Dragons cruised past the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals 9-1.
A game that was heavily dominated by the Dragons in terms of possession and chances, it was all-region star
Leonard Dunor (/Sheyenne) who got Howard on the scoreboard first as he converted a penalty kick off a foul that he drew in the box in the first 90 seconds of the game. After Gray scored his first goal nine minutes later, the Cardinals earned a penalty kick on the opposite side of the field that was subsequently saved by goalkeeper
Jessie Sanchez (/Laurel) in one of the few pieces of action he saw in the contest.
Leading just 2-0 at halftime, the Dragons kicked it into another level, scoring six goals over a 20 minute stretch including two from Jeffrey Fuentes. Howard continued to pile on chances, but were caught on a set piece by Catonsville to concede a goal in the 79th minute. The Dragons went on to outshoot the Cardinals 37-5 in the one-sided affair.
Howard will now hit the road to New Jersey as they take on Brookdale CC on Friday, August 26 at 2 PM.
