Largo, MD – Another tough road test was aced by the Dragons as they were able to get by the DIII nationally ranked Prince George's 72-67.
The game was hotly contested from start to finish as it went back and forth for the opening 10 minutes before an 8-0 run by Howard put them ahead 22-14. The Owls closed the first half with their best stretch of the game and went into halftime with a 31-29 lead.
Both teams seemingly exchanged leads every possession early in the second half with the Dragons finally getting a jump over the Owls with an
Andrew Mills (Owings Mills, MD/Newtown) mid-range jumper and a
Shane Taylor (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) fast break dunk. Prince George's scored on consecutive possessions to retake the lead, but Taylor's three pointer put the Dragons up 51-49.
The Dragons were able to fend off the many Owls attempts to charge back with
Marquis Freeman (Manassas, VA/Fork Union Prep) hitting a big three pointer from the top of the arc. With the Owls closing their deficit, Howard was able to break the full court press on back-to-back possessions that Freeman was able to finish to get the lead back to five and finish out the game on top.
Koby Baptiste (New Carrollton, MD/Parkdale) scored 19 points with nine rebounds and four steals in a huge performance for the sophomore guard. Mills also added 19 points and nine rebounds with a couple blocks and three steals. Freeman added 12 points and
Benjamin Murphy (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) scored 10.
The Dragons will have another tough test when they travel to Anne Arundel on Saturday, January 28 at 3 PM.
