Hagerstown, MD - A clean sweep in Quarterfinals brought the Howard Women's volleyball teams season to an end after falling to the Hawks of Southern Maryland 3-0.
The Dragons put up a fight against the Hawks in the first set staying sound on defense, which led to an extremely close final score of 25-23.
During the second set, the Hawks seemed to step things up on offense with a total of 17 kills that allowed them to separate from the Dragons, resulting in a final score of 25-16.
The Dragons did their best to push back in the third set against the Hawks, earning a total of 10 kills and had only 4 errors on offense compared to the Hawks with 14 kills and 8 errors on offense. Dragons were able to capitalize off of the Hawks errors, but just not enough to put them ahead of Southern Maryland resulting in a final score of 26-24.Â
Sydnei Harmon (Largo, MD/C.H. Flowers) led the way for the Dragons with 7 kills,
Vanessa Miller (Germantown, MD/Gaithersburg) followed behind Harmon with 6 kills, and
Lal Mawi (Laurel, MD/Reservoir) with 5 kills.
Stefamae Barquillia (Philippines/Einstein) led the way for the Dragons with 15 digs,
Makayla Holland (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg)Â followed with 12 digs, and Miller with 11 digs.
