Monaca, PA - Mikiyah Mallett (Pasadena, MD/Old Mill) brought the heat to Beaver County with a 14-11 double double to lead the Dragons to their fourth straight conference win against the Titans of Beaver County. Dragons improve to 6-1 on the season, and sit atop region 20 standings with a 4-0 record.
Dragons muscled their way to an early lead in the opening quarter with a rebound and put back bucket by
Jenna Ehlers (Philadelphia, PA/Solanco) to create a 17-point gap with Beaver County. With under thirty seconds left in the first quarter, Howard Community College finishes out the first quarter ahead of Beaver County 23-7.
Continuing to show enthusiasm and fight, a strong +1 bucket by Mikiyah Mallet sends her to the line and cheers of excitement through the gym from the Dragons bench. Not long after Howard Community College found themselves on a 12-point run with 6:09 left on the clock. Beavers tried their best to cut into the 20-point deficit, but Dragons continue to push and lead at the half 45-19.
Dragons open up the third quarter with a 16-point scoring run and an impressive layup by Mallett puts the Dragons ahead by 40. Dragons apply pressure for every minute on the clock, and with under 12 seconds left to play, a shot beyond the arc for Ehlers falls in to close out the third quarter 76-28.
Dragons continue trucking on during the final quarter of the game and an offensive foul on Beaver County sends the Howard Community College bench to their feet. Dragons hold possession during the final seconds of the game, and as the buzzer sounds they take home a win on the road against the Titans of Beaver County 87-39.
Mallett's performance comes as no surprise with 14 points, and managing to record a season high of 11 rebounds and 8 assists for the Dragons.
Sydnei Harmon (Largo, MD/C.H. Flowers) and
Lania Nick (Annapolis, MD/Glen Burnie) added 14 points each for the Dragons, with Harmon picking up 8 rebounds and 5 blocks, while
Lania Nick (Annapolis, MD/Glen Burnie) grabbed 6 rebounds. Ehlers with some impressive numbers herself, 12 points with half of those points coming from beyond the arc, and adding 7 rebounds and a steal.
Kayla Allen (Sykesville, MD/Liberty) and
Asaani Offer (Annapolis, MD/Catonsville) both put up 8 points for the Dragons, and Offer with an impressive 14 rebounds that assisted with a number of second chance points for the Dragons.
Nhaikyia Smith (Waldorf, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) finished with 6 points and 7 assists,
Madison Carey (Brandywine, MD/Frederick Douglass) followed with 4 points and 6 rebounds.
Jaylah Putman (Jacksonville, FL/Long Reach) added 5 points to the mix and
Ginikachi Anierobi (Nigeria/Loyola Jesuit College) added 2.
Dragons able to get a few days of rest until their next game on the road in Keyser, West Virginia on Wednesday, December 6 against Potomac State. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
